tensile.161447Recently, the metallurgical lab enhanced their tensile and compression testing capabilities through the addition of the Tinius Olsen 300SL testing machine.  This instrument has a capacity of 60,000 psi in tension and 80,000 psi in compression modes.  It also has a load accuracy of +/- 0.5% ensuring precise results when analyzing mechanical properties (Ultimate tensile strength, yield strength, elongation, Young’s Modulus, compression strength, etc.) of materials.  This new addition to the metallurgical lab enables the mechanical evaluation of a wide range of alloys and test specimens to meet customer needs.

For more information about tensile and compression testing or any of our metallurgical lab services, please contact Met Lab Manager Walt Custer at 937-298-9390 or via email.

GET TO KNOW THE ATS STAFF

One of the newest faces here at American Testing Services is Matt Wireman. Matt will start out in our Shipping and Receiving department and then will train with our amusement park inspection team. In the next few months he will get to know our valued customers and how things work here at our facility. Then he will begin working on his experience hours and training to become certified in a few of our different testing methods.PhotoMatt.155738

Matt is a Dayton native and did a little of everything before joining our staff. His most recent place of employment was Warped Wing Brewing Company in downtown Dayton, and he says it’s as awesome as people claim. Matt also does custom tile work on the side.

A self-proclaimed avid disk golf player, Matt is looking forward to a tournament later this month. For the last ten years Matt has been a guitar player for a local band. Welcome to ATS Matt!

GOOD EATS IN DAYTON

If you know Chris Small, you know he is a big guy with abig appetite!  Chris loves eating out at the many great locally owned restaurants and pubs in the Miami Valley.  Each month he’ll share one of his favorites with you.

Dark Horse Tavern – 209 Byers Road • Miamisburg, Ohio 45342 – www.dhtmiamisburg.com

Those of you that have been in Dayton for a while will remember a place called The Byers Inn. It was a great place to hear live music on a Sunday night. Several years ago The Byers Inn was purchased, completely remodeled, and renamed the “Dark Horse Tavern.”dark-horse-tavern.135939

When you arrive at the Dark Horse Tavern you’ll notice the southwestern style design. Once inside, it becomes even more apparent. I enjoy sitting at the wrap around bar, but there are several booths as well as tables. I start out with one of their seasonal beers on tap, and I really enjoy their Smoked Wings & Drums.  If smoked isn’t your thing you might try the Texas Nachos (chips with chicken, chili, cheese, tomatoes, jalapenos, onions, sour cream, salsa, and guacamole) or Pretzel Sticks with Nacho Cheese.

The Dark Horse specializes in pit smoked entrees including dry rubbed mesquite baby back ribs, chicken, pulled pork, and Texas brisket. All of these are excellent choices with a choice of two sides. They also offer soups, salads, a number of different sandwiches, and wraps.

The food, drinks, and service are all wonderful here. They have a party room for special events, and they still feature great live music on the weekends.
